How to Tell Fortunes With Turkish Coffee
Turkish coffee came into existence over 400 years ago. What distinguishes Turkish coffee from instant coffee is the tradition of telling one's fortune by having the grounds in the bottom of the cup read by a professional reader or just for fun. Sip the coffee from only one side of the cup. Drink all the liquid in the cup, leaving only the coffee grounds.

Place the saucer on top of the cup that has the coffee grounds. Hold both at chest level, turn the saucer counter clockwise several times and make a wish.

Turn the cup upside down onto the saucer and allow it to cool. Check to see if the grounds are cool by placing your finger on the cup. A coin can also be placed on the cup to dispel bad omens and facilitate cooling.

Flip the cup over, placing it on top of the saucer, and give the cup to the person telling your fortune. The person who wants his fortune told can not read his own cup otherwise the fortune is not accurate. The fortune teller looks at how the grounds are formed on the sides and bottom of the cup.

Listen to the fortune teller's interpretation of your coffee grounds. Each shape in the bottom of the cup is an interpretation of the fortune. Shapes in the lower half of the cup represent the past and shapes in the upper half tell about the future. Shapes on the right side of the cup have a positive meaning whereas shapes on the left are negative.
