How to Make a Lunchbox Centerpiece

Recall your youth with a fun lunchbox centerpiece. Any old metal lunchbox can be transformed into a whimsical centerpiece, perfect for a summer barbecue or a Labor Day picnic. This centerpiece would also work well for a child's birthday party or even an adult's milestone party to remind him of days gone by. Select flowers that are big and bold, like Gerber daisies, peonies or dahlias.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe the inside of the lunchbox clean. Line the inside with plastic wrap, making sure that the plastic wrap doesn't go above the top edge of the lunchbox.

    • 2

Cut floral foam to the size of the lunch box (you may need two pieces). Soak in a large bowl of water until the foam sinks to the bottom of the bowl, about 30 minutes. This will let you know it is completely saturated.

    • 3

Trim flower stems to about three inches long. Cut the stems on a slant, which allows the flower to absorb more water and stay fresh longer.

    • 4

Arrange the blossoms in rows of 3x3 or 4x4, depending on how big the flower heads are. Let the petals spill over the sides of the lunch box. Mix colors, making a tic-tac-toe pattern or stripes.

    • 5

Fill in any spaces between flowers with floral moss that has be sprayed with water to keep it moist.
