The Internet advances every day, but problems will still occasionally arise. One common problem is when a web page or website doesn't load. Here are some simple troubleshooting solutions for access a web page that won't open.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Reload the web page by clicking the reload button at the top of your browser.
Step2
Verify the web address, also known as the URL. Spell words correctly, capitalize when necessary and place punctuation in proper locations.
Step3
Ensure you have a working Internet connection by going to another website. If it loads correctly, then your Internet connection is not the problem. If it doesn't load, contact your service provider for assistance.
Step4
Review the web page blocks and controls on your firewall and virus scanning program. This blocks certain web pages from opening if your controls do not allow for the content on that page, and you may need to lower your controls to open it.
Step5
Clear your browser cache, because it can cause pages to load incorrectly if it is too full or if it contains damaged files. See your browser's help function for instructions.
Step6
Check an online Web Archive for the web page, if all else fails, because the web page may be offline. Enter the web page address in the search bar and click on "Take Me Back."

Tips & Warnings

  • The content of an offline web page accessed through Web Archive will not be up to date.
