Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Digital music in .wav or .mp3 format

    Create a Basic Slideshow

  1. Step 1

Prepare your slideshow images in your paint program or image editor. Make sure to crop them or resize them to the same dimensions.

  2. Step 2

Open Amara SlideShow Builder. The six tabs at the top of the window will take you to different editing features. You'll also see a demonstration slideshow in the Preview Frame.

  3. Step 3

Click the "New" button in the Preview Frame. Amara will clear out any previous settings.

  4. Step 4

Enter the slideshow settings in the "General" section. Set the width, height and slideshow frame rate in the "Movie Dimensions" box. You can also add a border and background if your images are smaller than your slideshow size.

  5. Step 5

Import your slides by clicking the "Add Item" button in "Slides" section. Your slides will line up in the "Slide Sequence" window. You can rearrange slides with the up and down arrows.

  6. Step 6

Set the loop speed in "Type" section. Check the "Loop" box to enable looping and type the loop speed into the "Slide duration" field. The "Type" window also allows you to add navigation buttons or image thumbnails to your slideshow.

  7. Step 7

Click the "Save" tab at the bottom of the Preview Frame window. Click the "Save SWF" button to create Flash movie file. Copy the text in the "HTML Code" box and paste it into the "" section of your web page.

  8. Customize Your Slideshow

  9. Step 1

Apply custom slide transitions in the "Effects" window. Check "Use the same effect for all slides" and choose the specific transition from the effects pulldown menu. Change the variables that control the transitions with the "Parameter Name" box.

  10. Step 2

Load background music with the "Sounds" window. Check the "Sound" box and select the music file. It must be in .wav or .mp3 format. Check the "Enable Sound Control" button to add pause, stop and volume features.

  11. Step 3

Add text with "Text" window. Select the slide(s) to receive text from "Slide Text" field. Use the "Text Properties" to position the type.

Tips & Warnings
  • To avoid distorting or stretching your images when you load them into the slideshow player, make your image dimensions in a ration that is easy to scale (e.g., 800 x 600 is a 4:3 ratio 640 x 480 is 3:2).
  • You need to make your picture sizes smaller than the slideshow size if you want the background to be visible.
  • If you don't see the Preview frame and settings tabs, click on the "Workplace" tab at the bottom of the window.
  • You can preview your slideshow with the "Generate and Display" button in "Preview Frame" window. "Preview in Browser" displays how the slide show would look on the web.
  • Make sure to upload the web page and .swf file into the same folder on your server. Otherwise the movie won't be visible in the web page.
