Getting help from the Department of Homeland Security requires a bit of research. First, determine which department office, called a component, is the right one to contact for your need. Then, locate local phone numbers and addresses for specific needs. The Department helps with immigration, security for travel, commerce and trade concerns and preparedness or response needs.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Determine which component of Homeland Security you need help from for your situation. At their website, you can look through the options, which includes FEMA help, transportation security help, federal law enforcement, and immigration help.
Step2
Call the National Customer Service Center, or NCSC, at (800) 375-5283. This program helps to answer immigration questions generally. They cannot help with individual cases over the telephone, though.
Step3
Contact the Homeland Security department of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for help with airport inspection and border patrol problems. This department has several offices, located in each airport as well as at each border crossing location. Contact the location in the area where you are located. You can find contact phone numbers for this at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website.
Step4
Visit the Department of Homeland Security's website for local resources, which lists each state's department offices, contact phone numbers and email addresses as applicable. Visit the applicable local office for specific case needs including immigration needs.
Step5
Email general questions about Homeland Security by visiting the website of the department. There, click on the correct component of the Department of Homeland Security, and follow the appropriate links to the contact information.
Step6
Compile all information you have in order to provide it to the representative you talk to for your need. This includes all documents regarding your case, or details you have regarding your query. Outline your need to the representative, and follow her advice for solving the problem or concern.
