Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Take the plunge with your neckline. A low plunging neckline draws attention to your face and chest and away from your hips and behind. It also helps with symmetry to visually balance your figure.
Step2
Choose a dress with a flowing skirt. Steer clear of clingy or stretchy fabrics that can accentuate every bulge and curve. A skirt that floats or skims over your hips will be the most comfortable and the most flattering.
Step3
Accentuate your waist. Many pear shaped women have a nicely defined waist. Pick a cocktail dress with a cinched waistline. Belts, sashes and embellishments on the waist emphasize a small waist while de-emphasizing large hips. Pair the nipped-waist look with a full cut skirt.
Step4
Pay attention to your foundation garments. If the dress you choose is unlined, opt for a girdle or control top pantyhose to eliminate bulges and shave a few centimeters off of your hips and behind. Make sure the dress you choose will work well with and hide the undergarments you need to look your best and feel comfortable.
Step5
Choose solid colors for the bottom half of your dress. Large prints draw attention and add bulk to the area you want to de-emphasize.
