We have seen the great Houdini do this trick and have been baffled by his amazing escape from a straight jacket. Many magicians have tried to do this trick and haven't been able to pull it off like Houdini. There is a specific way someone can perform this trick, and it takes some concentration.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start by putting a straight jacket device on, and get someone to help you secure it in place. It will feel extremely tight and you will not be able to move. Try not to panic.

  2. Step 2

Use your elbow to free yourself of the first position. Push and use force with one covered hand or arm, and push against the elbow of the other arm. This gives you some leverage to start lifting your arm.

  3. Step 3

Push your elbow up and over your head. Use some force with your neck as well to be able to duck your head underneath. This can loosen the jacket and gives you more flexibility.

  4. Step 4

Use your hands to slowly pull the straight jacket off. This is difficult, but in time, you will eventually be able to get out of the jacket. Pinch the material to move it along.

  5. Step 5

Slide the jacket off of your body and over your head. This might be a slow process, but you can be free eventually. As soon as it is just material in your hands you can have a free hand to undo the latches.
