The Statue of Liberty is one of the most patriotic symbols of America. Seeing this icon against a backdrop of fireworks on the 4th of July is a memorable event that no patriot should miss. There are several options to see the fireworks show from land, from sea and from the comfort of your own home.
Go to Liberty State Park in New Jersey on Independence Day. Take Exit 14B off of the New Jersey Turnpike, towards Jersey City, and follow signs for the park. Find a good spot overlooking the Hudson River to set up your blanket and lawn chairs. Look out over the water to find Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.
Buy a ticket on a cruise that will be sailing in the water near the Statue of Liberty on the evening of the 4th of July. Purchase the tickets well in advance, as they often sell out quickly. Board the boat early in the afternoon, and set sail around sunset.
Stay at home and watch the live coverage of the fireworks on television if you do not feel like fighting the crowds.
Wait until after dark. The Macy's 4th of July Spectacular begins with a flyover by the U.S. Air Force around 8:00 p.m., and the fireworks usually start around 9:00 p.m.
