Instructions
  1. Step 1

Contact local governmental authorities and ask what steps are required to hold a parade in your city. Obtain a copy of all required parade rules, regulations, requirements and permits. Call your local police department. Ask about police involvement and fees if off duty officers work the parade route.

  2. Step 2

Gather a dedicated group of volunteers interested in planning a 4th of July parade. Review the city parade requirements. Fill out required forms and pay required fees. Explore private venues for a 4th of July parade, such as sports stadiums or public parks, if necessary. Plan fund raisers or find individual sponsors to offset parade costs.

  3. Step 3

Plan a parade route. Contact the businesses and residents that live along the parade's path. Ask these individuals to participate in parade planning or ask them to invite guests to watch the 4th of July parade as it passes by.

  4. Step 4

Invite local high schools and organizations to participate in the parade. Encourage children's groups and local camps to bring groups of children to march in the parade dressed in 4th of July apparel. Tell participates the gathering place for the start and the end of the parade.

  5. Step 5

Find local classic car owners to participate in the parade. Ask if local celebrities, award winners or politicians can travel the parade route in these cars. Find owners of antique trucks or horse drawn carriages. Encourage all participants to decorate their vehicles in a 4th of July theme.

  6. Step 6

Hold a float contest to encourage groups to create and decorate floats for the parade. Ask local celebrities to judge the floats and offer a prize to the best float in the parade.

  7. Step 7

Advertise the 4th of July parade to the community. Encourage everyone to attend.

  8. Step 8

Designate parade duties to members of the parade committee. Assign one person the job of solving last-minute parade problems.
