How to Complete the Ghostly Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy

The Ghostly Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy starts with rescuing your brother Luigi from a ghost-filled mansion. You must then take on a Boo ghost in a race, and then finally take on the ghostly Bouldergeist, perhaps the toughest boss in the game.

Instructions

Luigi and the Haunted Mansion

1. Start on the toad spaceship and take the Launch Star to the planet with the mansion. Head through the stone arch past the Pumpkin Goombas and spider and follow the twisted path (avoid the rolling Chain Chomp) into the mansion.

2. Destroy the Boo monster by flipping the blue light switch in the corner and turning your back on the Boos to lure them into the light. You'll get the key to the door up the stairs.

3. Collect the sliding Star Chips by standing in their path and letting them come to you. Use the ramps to do this. Take the created Launch Star to the other side of the mansion.

4. Grab the key between the Pull Stars by dropping down from the middle one and re-grabbing the star. Go through the door and grab the "?" coin to get the Boo Mushroom.

5. Float through the gate you see as Boo Mario, go around the corner and float through the next gate on the right. Touch the light to return to normal, and then springboard over the bookcase to find Luigi, who'll give you the Star.

Spooky Sprint

6. Take the same Launch Star and path back to the mansion courtyard. This time, follow the Pull Star path beyond the archway and take the Launch Star at the end.

7. Talk to the Boo on the next planet and accept his challenge to race.

8. Swing across pull stars to race, going for the furthest ones you can reach while avoiding the many obstacles in your way. Beat the Boo to the planet past the minefield and you'll win the Star.

Bouldergeist

9. Return to the mansion and rescue the toad in the crates. He'll tell you how to handle the Bomb Boos. Use them to destroy the Bowser statues; the one at the fireplace has the Launch Star.

10. Use the launch pods to climb up the wall and reach the next Launch Star, avoiding the spiders. Ground-pound the spring you'll come to in order to reach the next launch pods and get the Star Chips.

11. Take the Pull Stars to get past the holed planet to the Launch Star toward the next holed planet. Make your way slowly, avoiding the mines, to reach the final Launch Star.

12. Buy a Power Mushroom from the Luma salesman, and then go down the steps to face Bouldergeist.

13. Destroy Bouldergeist by throwing the Bomb Boos from the black rocks he throws. Hit him twice to turn him into a black floating head, and then hit the head's red bulb.

14. Repeat the process when Bouldergeist reforms with two hands. You'll probably have to destroy at least one hand, which will reform after a while. Destroying him for good completes the Ghostly Galaxy.

Tips & Warnings

• There's a Sling Star you can reach after the meat-and-bones portion if you stick to the right side Pull Stars. This will sling you past much of the middle of the race quickly.
