Step 1
Develop good study skills. If you got into pharmacy school, you’re obviously smart. But not every student accepted had to study often to make the grades in undergraduate classes. The volume of material throw at you in pharmacy school is more intimidating, and the subject material’s complexity can take hours and hours to grasp. Quality of hours studying is more important that quantity, although both are required. Try your hand at different types of studying and find out what works best for you – alone, in a group, memorizing flash cards, utilizing class notes?
-
Step 2
Take time to get to know at least one of your professors well. He or she will be a valuable resource and mentor over time.
-
Step 3
Get a job in a pharmacy. Working through school is very helpful to applying the information from class to real life situations. Drug names, use, doses and strengths are hard to commit to memory from a text book – but from working 2-3 days a week, you can learn valuable facts about how medications are prescribed.
-
Step 4
Take time to relax. Stress management is important and critical to sanity. Find a hobby to get involved in to help you burn off anxiety. Vigorous exercise has been proven a stress reducer. Don’t be afraid to skip a class every once and a while and take that time for yourself.
