Many golfers aspire to be able to hit a straight, long, drive like Tiger Woods. And who wouldn’t when he drives a ball 282.5 yards on average hits the fairway 57.14 percent of the time. His long balls have rendered many golf courses obsolete and revolutionized golf. By following these five steps, you can drive a ball like golf’s greatest player.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Golf clubs
  • Golf balls
  • Tees
  1. Step 1

Address the ball like Tiger. If you are right-handed, place the club in your left hand and vice versa for lefties. With the club in your front hand, set up your stance. The ball should be parallel to the inside of your front foot. Play the ball close to your body, which forces you to bend over. Bend at the hips and not your shoulders.

  2. Step 2

Use an interlocking grip. Many beginning golfers use a baseball grip or squeeze the club like they are choking it. Place your top hand on the club and then put your bottom hand over it, wrapping the ring finger and pinky of the bottom hand around the top hand.

  3. Step 3

Bring the club back keeping your club face open. Turn your hips, extend your arms and roll your left foot. It is helpful to think of your body as a coil that is about to unwind, exploding into the ball.

  4. Step 4

Swing your club shaft back and keep it flush with your front arm. When you see the club head in your peripheral vision, begin your downswing. Hit down on the ball with all your momentum.

  5. Step 5

Finish the swing with a long follow-through. Many golfers make the mistake of stopping their swing after they make contact. Tiger’s follow through is as long as his backswing. By doing this, his swing is fluid and stays the same every time. The more times you use the same swing, the faster your game will improve.

Tips & Warnings
  • Tiger spends countless hours at the driving range and on the putting green. He constantly finds ways to improve. For instance, he ends every practice round on the putting green by sinking one hundred putts in a row.
