Today we are going to make a coil pot in our Ceramics class! It is so much easier than you might imagin so here we go to try to make a coil pot!

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

To start the process of making a coil pot we need to take out a medium sized chunk of clay and start kneeding like you would dough but work out all of those nasty air bubbles....

  2. Step 2

Once the clay has been worked with thouroughly spray the clay with water so it is easy to take apart....

  3. Step 3

Finally, take the clay in pieces and start to roll the pieces with the palms of your hands... So when it is finished you have snake-like rolls of clay.

  4. Step 4

The most important part of joining the pieces together would be to take a knife or you fingernails and tap the coils all the way thru as a way to make the coils stick to one another....

  5. Step 5

When the coils are joined around and around they should create a bowl-like shape... Once put in the kiln, it will retain that shape permanently...

  6. Step 6

You may choose to glaze the pot which also cooks with the pot in the kiln... It can be very tricky because the dreaded air bubbles may be in the glaze... Just check all part thoroughly and search for air bubbles and you should be good to go!
