How to Clean Popcorn Ceilings

Popcorn ceilings are difficult to really clean. Unfortunately, they do require cleaning and maintenance to look decent. You can't use any form of liquid cleaner on a popcorn ceiling, because it will destroy it. However, there are ways to clean and maintain your popcorn ceiling to keep it looking fresh.

Things You’ll Need:

• Paint
• Vacuum
• Paint roller with an extension poll
• Duster with extension poll
• Drop cloths

1. To start cleaning your popcorn ceiling you will need to loosen any dust with your duster. After you have loosened the dust on the popcorn ceiling you will need to use your vacuum's extension tool and vacuum the ceiling. Make sure it is free of all dirt, dust and debris.
2. Use your drop cloths to cover your entire room, leave no surface uncovered. You will paint the ceiling to cover any stains on the popcorn ceiling. You can buy special paint made specifically for popcorn ceilings at your local home improvement store. Roll on one single coat of paint using the paint roller with the extension handle to reach the ceiling. If you can still see the stains on the popcorn ceiling after the first coat, apply a second coat of paint.
3. You can also maintain your popcorn ceiling's appearance by using popcorn ceiling in a spray can to touch up areas that have flaked off. When you do this, cover everything in the room with drop cloths.
