If the egg lies on its side, the egg is completely fresh.

If the egg lies on an angle, it is probably a couple days old, but is perfectly edible.

If the egg stands upright, it's too old to eat by itself, but will be fine for baking.

If the egg floats, it's going to be rotten. Throw it out.
Tips & Warnings
Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to refrigerate eggs. They will be fine at room temperature.
If you are afraid the eggs will go bad, crack them into zip lock bags and freeze them. Use them later for scrambled eggs or baking.
