How to Download Torrent Files

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing (P2P) communications protocol. BitTorrent is a method of distributing large amounts of data widely without the original distributor incurring the entire costs of hardware, hosting and bandwidth resources. Instead, when data is distributed using the BitTorrent protocol, each recipient supplies pieces of the data to newer recipients, reducing the cost and burden on any given individual source, providing redundancy against system problems, and reducing dependence on the original distributor.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet
  • BitComet Program
Step1
Download and install Bitcomet from http://www.bitcomet.com
Step2
Start Bitcomet. A orange ball should appear in your icon tray in the bottom right corner of your computer screen.
Step3
Go to http://www.isohunt.com
Step4
Search for the file that you want in the search box at the top of the page.
Step5
When the results show up, choose a file that lists a high number of Seeds and click on it.

The more seeds a file has, the better (and faster) it will download.
Step6
On the file’s page, click Download .torrent.
Step7
A box should come up with information about the torrent file you are about to download. Click OK at the bottom of the box and the torrent will start downloading.
Step8
When the download is complete, you can find the file in the C:/Downloads folder on your computer.
Step9
Click once on the orange Bitcomet Ball in your task bar. Right click on the file that just finished downloading(there will be an orange arrow beside its title). When the menu comes up, go down to Delete, then choose Delete Task Only and click OK. This will remove the torrent, but leave the file you downloaded.
Step10
Now you’re finished! Download another torrent, or enjoy the one you just obtained.

Tips & Warnings

  • The More Seeds, the Better
  • There are many torrent download sites, do a search to find the ones you like.
  • You can choose to keep a file running in the BitComet program to allow others to download from you.

on 4/12/2008 I've always seen this P2P but never looked into it because it seemed prohibitive. Thanks for the heads-up!
