Organize A Bonfire Outing

A bonfire is a good way to socialize with family and friends. But's important to be safe and select the proper area for your outing, one that keeps the bonfire away from inflammables.

From Quick Guide: Fall into Autumn
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wood
  • Lighter fluid and lighter
  1. Step 1

Tell a few friends or people you know that you'd like to organize a bonfire. You should tell them beforehand because they might be able to suggest a good location or help you plan the outing. It also alerts them to keep their calenders open so they can attend when you decide on a date and time.

  2. Step 2

Find a location. Many parks and beaches have designated bonfire areas. If you don't already have a location in mind, you can do a Google search to find out which parks in your area permit bonfires. You should only use a designated area to avoid getting a citation.

  3. Step 3

Pick a date and time. Friday and Sunday evenings are good bonfire days, but you're not limited to those. If you have a special occasion like the end of the school year or spring break, it's okay to have one during the week. Just keep in mind that it should be a date that allows most of your friends to come.

  4. Step 4

Invite people. You can call your friends or send them an e-mail telling them about the bonfire. If they're all programmed in your cell phone and can receive text messages, you can send a text message to all your friends at once letting them know about it.

Also, if your friends are on Myspace or Fackbook, you can make a free event listing on there and invite them that way. Both of those social websites allow people to RSVP for the event, so that way you can keep track of who's coming for sure and who isn't.

  5. Step 5

Meet and start the bonfire. If everything else has gone off without a hitch, all you have to do now is gather the wood and start the fire. Some places already have a designated bonfire area with wood that you can reuse.

Tips & Warnings
  • Invite strangers if you feel comfortable, a bonfire is a good way to meet new people.
  • Avoid starting a bonfire in or too close to a forest.
