The first part of this boss level is fairly easy, but the last part can go on and on if you don’t work quick. If you’re having difficulty with this mid-game observatory boss, follow these steps to optimize your strategy.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Nintendo Wii console
  • Super Mario Galaxy disc
  • Wiimote
  • Nunchuck attachment
  1. Step 1

You’ll start out near a caged launch star. Run to the other side of the planet and attract the attention of one of the Bullet Bills coming out of the launcher. Make it chase you back to the cage and lure it into the glass to break the launch star free. Launch to the next planet.

  2. Step 2

Watch as the boss, a huge robot, prepares to get settled on its 3 legs. Avoid getting stepped on, then run up the side of any leg. Dodge any Bullet Bills that come your way as you run towards the moving gears. Cross the gears by timing your jumps carefully and trying to stay on the outside edges of the gear spokes. Once you’re on the other side, keep running to the top of the robot.

  3. Step 3

Bullet Bills should be firing all around. Lure one into the dome-shaped cage to break it open. The star can be seen beneath, inside a smaller cage which is surrounded by a fence. You’ll need to use a Bullet Bill to break a hole in the fence, then use another one to pass through that hole and into the cage. Unfortunately, after you break a section of the fence, it will rebuild itself after a few seconds.

  4. Step 4

Run down to one of the Bullet Bill launchers and get one to follow you. Have it chase you to another Bullet Bill launcher and try to get two of them following you at once, spaced apart by about two bullet lengths.

  5. Step 5

Run around the planet’s top and hug the side of the fence. Run carefully to try to guide the second Bullet Bill right through the hole as soon as the first one blows it open.

Tips & Warnings
  • When luring Bullet Bills at the very end, be sure to run around the top of the robot to gradually lead the Bullet Bills around the curvature of the robot’s dome. The rounded top is too steep to be able to run straight towards the cage in the middle.
