Step 1
Find a container or carrier for the pedicure tools. There are many types, sizes and shapes that would be suitable. If you are putting together a kit for the house, then it would be better to use a hard container made of anti-fungal material. For a portable kit to carry in the car or handbag, find lightweight polyurethane or fabric bags or containers.
-
Step 2
Items in the kit can vary depending on your preferences. A toenail clipper is an important item. Regularly clip your toenails to prevent getting ingrowing nails. There are different types and sizes of clippers, so find one that suits your requirements--for example, some clippers have rubber handles to prevent it from slipping from your fingers when you are trying to clip the nails.
-
Step 3
Pumice stone is also useful to prevent buildup of rough, scaly hornified skin on the soles of the feet. There are various types and sizes available. The foot brush/pumice stone combination tool is convenient because the brush and stone are attached to the same brush.
-
Step 4
A callous remover has two different surfaces. One side is the metal part used to soften and remove the calluses and the abrasive surface is used to smooth out rough skin. Callouses can become large and very painful if not taken care of and removed.
-
Step 5
Many people have ugly, unsightly corns on their feet, so a way to prevent corns from appearing is to wear proper fitting shoes, but if you already have them then you can buy corn and callus shavers from many drugstores. These tools have blades that literally shave off the corns or calluses from the feet. Blade replacements are available and should be replaced regularly. Never use blunt or rusty blades when shaving the skin.
-
Step 6
A toenail scissors is also another tool to put into the kit. They are specially designed to fit the contour of the feet and make toenail cutting easier.
-
Step 7
Nail files are great tools to keep the toenails smooth and in perfect shape. You can buy a variety of types and sizes--for example: the dual surface foot file, European Pedicure file and the contour toe file.
-
Step 8
Gel toe spacers are useful items to include in the kit. They are used to keep the toes separated for nail painting.
