Things You'll Need:
- Astrology guidebook(s)
- Daily horoscopes
-
Step 1
Visit your library or local bookstore. Browse through the astrology section and find basic guidebooks on the different astrological signs. Grab a few books and skim through them to find an author whose style and content appeals to you. A great test for an astrology guide is to read some of the information on your sign. Does it sound familiar? Now choose a sign that is several months away from yours. Could it equally apply to you, or is it way off? Because of our varying dates, times and places of birth, sun sign descriptions are of course not going to be universally accurate in every detail. It should be accurate enough, however, to recognize many of your own qualities and how they differ from other sun signs.
-
Step 2
Select two or more books that seem the most helpful. You can find books that specifically deal with relationships between the signs, in regards to friends, co-workers or romantic interests.
-
Step 3
Carefully read your own sun sign description. Reflect on each point the astrologer makes and examine how much it applies to you. If it says you tend to hold grudges, think about examples where this might have been the case. Are you stubborn, enthusiastically social or passive-aggressive? Knowing yourself well is the first step to having good relationships. You can't figure out how to deal with others if you don't know your own attributes, faults and relationship styles.
-
Step 4
Select the sun sign of a friend, co-worker or loved one. Read it as thoroughly as you read your own. Astrologers will give you lots of material to work with, and as you read you'll no doubt recognize aspects of your friend that you might not have thought about before. You'll also recognize traits you have in common, or areas where you obviously approach things in completely different ways. You might be an unpredictable Gemini who flits from project to project when you feel inspired, while your boss is a steady Capricorn that likes to do projects in a practical order.
-
Step 5
Think about these areas where you differ and how it can affect your relationships. You may not have known why your boss seemed irritated lately, but reading about her different work style could give you some clues. By evaluating these differences in a calm environment, when you're not confronted with the person, you can be more objective. Take the time to think how some of these differences can be worked out or compromised on. Once you've come up with some possible solutions, you can try them out--or consider a discussion with the other person to gauge their feelings on the matter.
-
Step 6
Gather a basic knowledge of all the sun signs. This will help you know how to deal with all the people in your life, and to think about those relationships more clearly. Maybe all those corny pick-up lines of "What's your sign?" had a point after all. If you're always attracted to Libras because of their social natures, but then later disappointed by their passive aggressive sides, you might choose to steer clear of Libras in future. Or, knowing that someone is a Libra can teach you to be prepared for any double-edged remarks and be ready to laugh them off.
-
Step 7
Read a daily or monthly horoscope. Daily horoscopes are often vague and open to a lot of interpretation. It's difficult to offer such precise predictions for a month's worth of birthdays. Monthly horoscopes are better for giving you an overview and some big days to watch out for. Whether you believe these predictions or not, they can be useful. You might read that Friday is a great day to ask that cute co-worker on a date, and it spurs you on to do just that. Maybe it was less destiny and more the fact that you both like each other, but seeing those words in print can be just the motivation you need to jump start your love life. A horoscope might tell you to call an old friend, think more about your family, or buy your husband a romantic gift. It might be the perfect time in your star chart to do these things, but it's also just good advice. A horoscope can be like a wise and devoted friend who always knows what to do.
