How to make homemade chia pets

This activity is fun with the preschool crowd. This article will show you how to make a homemade chia pet. These turn out really cute if done correctly.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Small dixie cups
• dirt/soil
• grass seed
• construction paper
• scissors
• glue
• water

1. Measure different colors of construction paper to cover the dixie cup all the way around. Let the children choose which color they would like their pet to be.

2. Have them cut out ears and eyes to put on the cup. They can even just draw them on.

3. Have the children put two scoops of soil into the cup.

4. Sprinkle in the grass seed. Very small amount, like a pinch

5. Add another small scoop of dirt over top of the grass seed.

6. Water it very lightly. Have them do this everyday and keep in sunlight. Pretty soon the grass will grow and it will look like crazy fur or hair.

Tips & Warnings

• Use a spray bottle to water the chia pet. Because it's so small too much water will drown the grass seeds and then they will not grow.
• When the grass gets too long have the children give their chia pet a hair cut, do this with supervision only.
