Here is another article on creating HTML links for web pages. This one involves creating a link from a picture you yourself have the right to use as your own on the internet. Read on to find out how.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Image for link
  • Site to place the picture link on
  1. Step 1

Image I Chose to Make a Link

Find any picture on your hard drive you would like to make into a link--such as a personal photograph or a link button made in a image editing program.

  2. Step 2
    Website to link to
    Website to link to

Pick out a website to link to. I will use the address for my MySpace site as an example. (Double click on image at left to enlarge link example).

  3. Step 3
Link Code for a Picture Link
Link Code for a Picture Link

Here is an example of code to use to make your selected picture into a link. Replace the words "linkpicture.jpg" with the image of your choice. If using the code displayed, the picture must be uploaded by FTP for your link to work--otherwise the image src must be a direct link to the picture's web address. (Double click on image at left to enlarge code).

  4. Step 4
    Complete Picture Link
    Complete Picture Link

Put your link in the quotation marks located in the href section of the code and the source of your picture in the link by the img part. ( I will leave the title of my picture as linkpicture.jpg but you must change the image name to your picture's title in order for it to show up). (Double click on image at left to enlarge).

  5. Step 5

All of the above can be done in Notepad to create the link, just remember to either cut and paste into you particular program or save as part of the web page that is to be uploaded, making sure if the entire page is done in Notepad to save the code as a .html or .htm extension. remember to FTP the picture at the same time or you will have just a blank box for a link!

Tips & Warnings
  • Please double click on the pictures in this article to get the full-sized version of the code.
  • Most web sites accept .jpg and .gif pictures, but if you have your own site--.bmp and other image extensions may be used.
  • Make sure the picture is uploaded along with this code or state the web site which it is at in the img statement.
