Are you on a budget but need some supplies for the Winter driving season? There is nothing worse than having your car be stuck in the snow. You don't want to burn up your engine of your car by trying to spin your wheels, right? Try these helpful tips and see if they work for you?

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Coffee Cans filled with salt and gravel in your trunk
  • Reflector tape
  • Asphalt shingles
  • Rubber bathroom mat
  1. Step 1
    Recycle & Reuse!
    Recycle & Reuse!

Having a couple of empty coffee cans can help you in a great pinch! Fill them up with course salt and or gravel. These items when used will get you out of a icy situation. For an attention getter wrap reflective tape around the cans so they are easy to see when oncoming traffic comes. Who knows they might see the cans and stop to help?

  2. Step 2
    Roof Shingles
    Roof Shingles

This tip I love because it really helps with traction underneath the tires! Keep 2 or 3 asphalt shingles in the trunk for Winter traction. It is less messy than sand!

  3. Step 3
    TRACTION any way you can!
    TRACTION any way you can!

A smart tip my friend told me that works is to use a old rubber bathroom mat for traction. All you need to do is, cut the mat in half lengthwise and put the pieces under the tires, there you go instant traction!

Tips & Warnings
  • It is wise to test all of these tips out before a heavy storm comes (for safety reasons) so you can keep the ones that work for you. That is what I did personally and I found it comforting knowing that I had these tools to get me out of a bad snow situation.
  • Just to be on the safe side, invest in a air pump for your tires incase they ever need to be inflates or deflated when using these methods and make sure that is in proper working order.
  • Never stand directly behind your tires when trying to get your car to have traction because when the tire spins to find the traction, it might throw the item that you placed under the tires up into your face or body.
