How to Clean Your Laptop Screen/Monitor

Things You’ll Need:

• Distilled Water
• Isopropyl Alcohol
• Very Soft Cloth (cotton)

1. You can leave your monitor on but if you turn it off you will be able to see the smears and smudges much better.
   
   Always use a SOFT cotton cloth to clean your laptop screen, or those special electrostatic cloths used to clean eyeglasses. An old soft t-shirt also works well. (never use paper towels, napkins, toilet paper or rags as these will scratch your screen)
2. Dry Dusting:
   If your screen is not too dirty you can use the cloth to dry dust the screen. Wipe in one direction from the top of the screen to the bottom.
3. Cleaning Solution:
   If your monitor is really dirty then you can use a home made cleaning solution for a deep cleaning.
4. Make Homemade Cleaning Solution:
   Ingredients:
   Isopropyl Alcohol
   Distilled Water (Do not use tap water because it contains salts that can whiten your screen)
5. Mix equal parts distilled water to isopropyl alcohol (example: 1/2 cup water to 1/2 cup isopropyl alcohol)
   Make sure to use only isopropyl alcohol.
6. Apply a very small amount of the solution ONTO THE CLOTH (never pour over the screen as this can short circuit your monitor).
7. Very gently (without pressure)wipe the screen in one direction from the top of the screen to the bottom.

Tips & Warnings

• If you don't care for homemade solutions you can buy cleaning solutions made especially for LCD screens
• Do not use any products that contain ethyl alcohol, ammonia, acetone, toluene, ethyl acid, or methyl chloride based cleaners these will yellow your screen.
• NEVER put your fingers on the screen as this can burn out pixels
• Do not use tap water because it contains salts that can whiten your screen
• Make sure to use only isopropyl alcohol, which is just regular rubbing alcohol
• Never pour or spray any cleaning solutions over the screen as this can short circuit your monitor
• NEVER use a rag, paper towel or napkins to clean or dust your screen as these can scratch the surface of your monitor.
