The spouse and I have lived in several apartments with popcorn ceilings. They are difficult to clean with traditional methods so we came up with the following solution:

I would be EXTREMELY cautious in using this method to clean popcorn ceilings. Wetting this type of ceiling and then rubbing could possibly release fibers of asbestos. Any home built prior to 1977 (when the EPA banned the use of asbestos in ceiling texture) could possibly have this toxic material right over their head. Breathing these toxic fibers and inhaling them into your lungs, could be life-threating.
