These are the basics to be able to do a backflip.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A soft surface to land on, such as grass, a cushion, maybe sand.
  1. Step 1

    Start the jump by swinging your arms down and back while crouching down.

  2. Step 2

    While you are jumping up, swing your arms forward and up. Your arms should be straight up and reaching as high as possible at the peak of your jump.

  3. Step 3

    When you reach the peak of your jump, quickly pull your knees to your chest and wrap your arms around them.

  4. Step 4

    When you are at about 75% around your backflip (see picture), let go of your legs and start to straighten out your body.

  5. Step 5

    When you end your flip, land first on your toes, then your entire foot, and finally absorb the impact by slightly giving in to the momentum and bend bend your knees about halfway.

Tips & Warnings
  • Look up some videos on yotube about this topic. They have a few helpful videos.
  • Before attempting a backflip, practice the jumping technique for a while.
  • On your first attempts, have a coulpe of spotters to help you if you get hurt.
