How to Repair Damaged Central Vacuum Pipe

Having a central vacuum system in your home can be very convenient. It eliminates the need to carry a heavy vacuum upstairs or from room to room. Over time, you may find that your vacuum suction has decreased and you are not getting the pull that you need. If your pipe was stepped on or developed a crack because of age, you can repair the pipe yourself without calling a repairman for expensive repairs.

    Things You'll Need

    • PVC pipe cutter
    • Slip couplings
    • Tape measure
    • PVC pipe
    • PVC glue
      • 1

Cut out the damaged section of PVC pipe using a PVC pipe cutter.

      • 2

Slide a slip coupling over each opening of the section of pipe that is remaining. This is where you will be doing the repair and not the section of pipe that you removed.

      • 3

Measure the section of pipe that you cut away and cut a new PVC pipe the exact same length.

      • 4

Apply a line of PVC glue on the outside of both ends of the PVC pipe. The glue should cover 1/2 inch on both ends of the pipe.

      • 5

Place the new pipe where the damaged section was and slide the couplings down over the new section.

      • 6

Turn the couplings at least 180 degrees to form a tighter bond.

      • 7

Wait at least 24 hours for the glue to dry before you use the vacuum.
