How to Use HTML Tags for Links

Know the right HTML tags to manually insert links into your website.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • an incomplete site (the one you want to put links into)
  • URL/s of the sites you want to link to (e.g. http://yvetteniople.blogspot.com)
  • an HTML editor (e.g. Notepad)

Step1
NOTE: I used brackets to be able to show the codes required. Change all brackets into less-than/greater-than signs. [] = <>
Step2
Open your .html file. Find the [body] tag.
Step3
Insert the following tag where you want the link to appear: [a href="intended_url_here"]
e.g.
[a href="http://yvetteniople.blogspot.com"]
Step4
Think of a name for your link and insert it after the tag above.
e.g.
[a href="http://yvetteniople.blogspot.com"]My Blog
Step5
Close the tag by using [/a].
e.g.
[a href="http://yvetteniople.blogspot.com"]My Blog[/a]
Step6
Save your .html document and preview.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't forget to change the brackets or the codes won't work!
  • The quotation marks for the URL are unnecessary, but highly recommended.
  • The [a href=""][/a] tags should always be placed INSIDE the [body][/body] tags.
  • NEVER forget to close the tags.
  • The appearance of your links can be customized. Experiment. :)
