One of the many advantages to using Adobe Illustrator is that the program gives you an enormous art board to draw on. Keeping track of small elements of your drawing can be tough in such a large space. Luckily the hand tool can help you navigate your space. This guide will get you started using the handy dandy hand tool.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Open Illustrator document
Step1
Draw any shape in your Illustrator document (this shape is just for practice).
Step2
Select the hand tool from the toolbar. Sometimes the hand tool temporarily hides behind the page tool.
Step3
Hold down your left mouse button, and "move" the page to the right or left, up or down.
Step4
Open up your navigator panel (window/navigator). The navigator panel is like a little monitor of where you are in your document in terms of view. Between the hand tool and the navigator panel, you can always know where you are in your document.
