Sick of Connect 4 and Pente, and looking for a new pieces-in-a-row game? Try Sequence; the object is still to get five pieces in a row, but it's just slightly less straightforward than Pente and Connect 4. Still, this is a great game for people scared off by complex strategic games. Here is how to play.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sequence board game
  1. Step 1

Give each player a color of chips, and deal them each an appropriate number of cards: seven in a two-player game, six in a three-player game.

  2. Step 2

If playing in teams, sit so that the pattern of teams repeats going clockwise around the circle. Each team shares a color of chips, but each individual player gets her own hand of cards (five in a six-player game).

  3. Step 3

Each player cuts the deck. The highest cut goes first and aces are high.

  4. Step 4

The first player plays a card, then places a chip on an open square that matches that card. Playing a two-eyed jack instead allows you to play on any open card space. Playing a one-eyed jack instead allows you to remove any opposing chip from the board. Once a card is played, a replacement is drawn, and play passes clockwise to the next player.

  5. Step 5

The first player(or team) with five chips in a row wins. In a two-player game, the first player with two sets of five chips in a row wins.

Tips & Warnings
  • The corner spaces count for everyone's team, but you can't play a chip on them.
  • Don't forget to remove the jokers before playing.
