Paragliding is like flying a kite with you as the passenger instead of standing on the ground holding the string. Flights can last for extended periods of time and allow you to travel for miles. Kiting is working with a paraglider on the ground. In case you ever get turned around, it helps to know how to do reverse kiting in paragliding.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Helmet
  • Leather gloves
  • Thick clothing
  • Boots
  • Paraglider
  1. Step 1

Verify that you have all the necessary equipment. Put on your helmet and leather gloves. Protect your hands from burns due to handling the ropes. Make sure that your clothing is thick enough and that you have on good boots. You are now ready for your paraglider.

  2. Step 2

Practice on a low-lying hill in stronger winds before reverse kiting on even ground in medium wind. Get your brake lines in the right hands and then turn into a reverse position. By having them in the correct hands, you avoid getting confused when you twist back.

  3. Step 3

Stop the launch if the paraglider starts to inflate before you’re ready. Use the D’s rather than the brakes to avoid premature liftoff and to kill the wings quickly. Depending on the strength of the wind, use the C’s instead.

  4. Step 4

Raise the A risers to inflate. This starts the lifting procedure. At the top, you want the A risers clear and the D’s clear at the bottom.

  5. Step 5

Square yourself to the wind, flow with the glider to maintain control and to stay underneath it. This inflates the wings evenly and keeps the glider from falling forward, backward or to the sides.

  6. Step 6

Sit down and stand up to perfect control of the paraglider. Lean back to put weight into the wing. When you’re ready, turn around and launch.
