1
Decide on the pattern to be used and how large the desired puppet will be. Enlarge the pattern pieces on a copy machine until it is the appropriate size.
-
2
Cut out the pattern pieces from the paper, making sure to cut on the outside edge of the pattern line.
-
-
3
Pin pattern pieces to material. If children are under 7 years old, it may be a better idea to tape the pattern pieces to the material. Roll a piece of tape into a circle with the sticky side out. Place 3 to 4 pieces of rolled tape on the back of the pattern piece and carefully place on material.
-
4
Look over the pattern placement. Make sure all pieces are on the correct material and that the material extends from underneath the pattern piece. Always check twice before cutting.
-
5
Use a sharp pair of scissors to cut the pieces of material out. Carefully follow along the pattern piece to ensure material is the correct shape.
-
6
Keep pattern with corresponding material piece to remind puppet maker of special details when putting puppet together. These details are usually written on the pattern pieces.
