Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Understand the terminology. SPF stands for "sun protection factor" which means how long you are in the sun before you get burnt by UV rays. UV means ultraviolet radiation.
Step2
Recognize that different numbers mean the lotion has higher and lower amounts of SPF. SPF 2 blocks about half the sun’s rays and SPF 15 blocks about 95 percent of the sun’s rays. The number 2 also means you can stay in the sun for about 2 hours wearing the lotion before you get burnt. The 15 means you can stay there for about 15 hours.
Step3
Know the difference between UVA and UVB. UVA absorbs the sun’s rays. UVB blocks the sun’s rays. A lotion with SPF 15 has both UVA and UVB protection.
Step4
Buy anti-aging cream with SPF levels of 15 so that you get the benefit of the aging cream and the benefit of the sun protection. Sun damage can further age your skin.
Step5
Wear lotions with SPF all year round. Skin moisturizers for winter use should also contain SPF. You can protect yourself from the dryness of winter and the damage of the sun which can be reflected from the snow.
Step6
Wear it properly. Wear more lotion or moisturizer on your face to protect your nose and ears because they stick out. Buy lip balm or lipstick with SPF.
Step7
Use lotion with SFP for sensitive skin if you have skin allergies. Watch the lotions with a lot of color or perfume. Read for any side effects. Some products cause skin to turn red or tingle, especially in people with sensitive skin.
