How to Serve Tapas

In Spain, tapas traditionally refer to any small dish of food served with a drink at bars and restaurants. Tapas can really be any type of finger food, and can also be served together as a meal. For your next party, you can grill different tapas and serve them in small dishes to your guests as an appetizer or serve a variety as a fun and informal meal. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Choose your tapas. Traditionally, tapas in Spain are made from olives, cheese, Spanish meats and sausages, tomatos, peppers or tortillas. The food is usually spiced, stuffed, and often grilled or fried.

    • 2

Go to your local market, Spanish grocer, or even online to look for Spanish meats and cheeses for your tapas. You can often find tapas sets that include chorizo, Spanish ham, great Spanish cheeses, and even dishes to serve them in.

    • 3

Consider an alternative tapas menu if traditional foods and recipes are hard to come by, or if there is a particular appetizer that you want to build a menu around. You could grill wings, quesadillas, or sausage and serve them with dip, or you could grill flatbread finger sandwiches or stuffed peppers or eggplant. Keep the flavors working together to balance the menu.

    • 4

Pick a drink to compliment your tapas. Sherry is usually served with traditional tapas, but you can pick any drink that suits your event and goes well with your menu.

    • 5

Make it your own. Serve tapas that reflect your own cultural background, or create a theme for your finger food celebration like using southwestern spices, French cheeses, or Indian style spices and dips. Create new flavor combinations and use different grilling techniques to make your tapas tasty and interesting.
