Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Sign up for classes through your community recreation center to meet other kids in your city. Although they go to different schools, they’ll probably live close enough to hang out with after school.
Step2
Talk to other participants when facing off in competitions against other schools. When competing in a battle of the bands, for example, find kids who play the same instrument as you do and ask them about techniques or favorite songs. Compare study notes with kids in an academic quiz competition or spelling bee. Be sure to talk to them after the match is over so they won’t think you’re simply trying to distract them.
Step3
Host a charity event and invite other schools to participate. Ask neighborhood schools to create game booths, contests and bake-sale items for a carnival held on your campus. Donate the proceeds to a children’s charity.
Step4
Arrange to have your club conduct a joint project, field trip or experiment with the same club at another school. For example, invite another science club to conduct the same experiment you’ll be working on. Hold a meeting and mixer where you discuss the results.
Step5
Attend summer events (like cheerleading or adventure camp) where you’ll meet and spend a few weeks with people from other schools. Find kids from your area to email, call and meet up with during the upcoming school year.
