Step 1
Sign up with a reputable dating website using an email address separate from your regular one. Many sites will charge you a fee, but they might offer you a trial period so you can try it out.
-
Step 2
Make your profile. Be informative about your personality, your likes and your dislikes. However, leave out identifying information such as your last name, address, phone number and place of business.
-
Step 3
Get to know a couple of people that appeal to you. Communicate by email for the first few weeks to get an idea of their personality.
-
Step 4
Be the one to make the first call. Ask for their phone number and block your number from showing on their phone before you call. If you don’t know how to do this, ask your phone company to walk you through it.
-
Step 5
Meet in a public place the first few times you have a date with a new person. This way, you’ll be able to get a better idea of what type of person they are, and if they seem creepy, you’ll still be safe with plenty of other people around.
-
Step 6
Tell friends and family members where you are going, the name of the person you are meeting, your phone number and your date’s phone number if you have it. Give them a picture of your date as well. Make sure your date is aware that other people will be checking on you.
-
Step 7
Be careful if the person seems upset or hurt that you are being so careful. They should respect that you are doing what you can to stay safe.
