Carrying heavy textbooks is becoming a common problem for students of all ags. However, you can deal with having heavy textbooks if you follow a few simple suggestions.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use a backpack with lumbar support to help lessen the burden of heavy textbooks.

  2. Step 2

Invest in a rolling backpack. A backpack of this type will allow you to carry heavy textbooks without having to worry about any weight on your back. Look for rolling backpacks or bags with inline wheels that can make rolling easier.

  3. Step 3

Bring only the books that you absolutely need to class or to home. If you know that you won't need a particular textbook in class one day, leave it at home or in your locker. If you don't have homework for a certain subject one night, you may be able to leave the book at school.

  4. Step 4

Consider photocopying pages of your textbook. This works especially well if you only need a few pages or a chapter of your textbook at a time. You can either photocopy the pages you need on your own, or you can ask your teacher to do so.

  5. Step 5

Ask for an extra copy of your heavy textbook to keep at home or in the classroom. Some schools have extra textbook copies that students can take home and keep there.

  6. Step 6

Look into, or suggest, electronic textbooks. Some textbook publishers are now putting entire textbooks on compact discs for use in the computer.
