How to Indy on a Skateboard

One of the coolest things about skateboarding is the wide range of tricks you can learn. The more experienced you are the more advanced your tricks can become. The Indy grab, when a skateboarder reaches down with their back hand and grabs the board in between his two feet, is one of the easiest grabs to pull off. Follow these steps to learn how to Indy on a skateboard.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Position yourself on your skateboard so that your back foot is on the tail end of the board and your front foot is slightly behind your front trucks. Foot positioning is very important in performing an Indy.

  2. Step 2

    Ride toward the ramp you want to Indy off of. At the top of the ramp do an ollie, make sure you get plenty of height, the higher you are the more time you have to pull off an Indy.

  3. Step 3

    Bend your knees, the further down you bend the easier it will be to pull of an Indy, Grab your skateboard along the toe edge right in between your feet.

  4. Step 4

    Hold the Indy for as long as you can. The longer you hold it the cooler it looks.

  5. Step 5

    Release your skateboard before you land. If you are still holding onto your board when you land you will crush your fingers.

  6. Step 6

    Land in a fakie as you would if you were doing a vert ollie. Feel proud that you have pulled off one of the most versatile skateboarding grabs.

  7. Step 7

    Practice regularly and soon all of your friends will think you skate like a pro. You can even begin to incorporate your Indy into other tricks and runs.
