How to Get Away with Daydreaming in Class

Sitting in a closed room while a teacher goes over material for what seems like the hundredth time can stretch anyone's attention span. The mind can wonder and suddenly daydreams come into focus. This can result in the teacher's scorn or worse, if a person is caught not paying attention. There are ways to camouflage them and get away with daydreaming in class.

Instructions

    • 1

Write down a question at the beginning of class to ask if caught in a daydream. Scan the classroom material that the lesson will cover and write down a question germane to the topic. That way you can look like you have been paying attention and involved in the lecture.

    • 2

Ask a question at the beginning of class. That way it shows that you are concentrating on the lecture and makes it less likely the teacher will call upon you again. Teachers usually call on students that are not involved at any point during the class.

    • 3

Get a friend or classmate to cover for you in case the teacher asks you a question. Have that person make a loud sound or nudge you if the teacher looks in your direction as a precursor to a question.

    • 4

Scribble on a piece of paper while you daydream. To get away with a daydream a person must appear busy and you achieve this ruse by acting as if the scribbling is note taking.

    • 5

Glance at the teacher every once in a while. This makes it seem that the student is actively listening to the teacher.

    • 6

Finish the assigned class work as quickly and efficiently as possible. That way you can allow the mind to wander while the other students finish their work. Don't be too obvious about it because sometimes teachers will give a student busy work just to keep him occupied.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not daydream too often if you intend to receive good grades. Daydreaming can damage your class participation grade.

  • Don't fixate on one object or another for too long when daydreaming.
