Don’t throw away all those metal bottle caps. Instead, save them and make a unique one-of-a-kind bottle cap choker, and at the same time, keep those caps out of the landfill. Making bottle cap chokers is an easy craft, but great fun because you can be as creative as you like. Make a few for yourself and a few to give away.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Choker clasp
  • Leather belt, approximately 1 inch wide
  • Carpet thread
  • Several bottle caps
  • Needle
  • Paint or other decorative items (optional)
  • Hot glue gun

Step1
Cut an old belt down to size to fit your neck. To determine the right size, wrap the belt loosely around your neck and add about two extra inches. Cut the belt with sharp scissors. Cut off the metal buckles and carefully round both end with the scissors.
Step2
Stitch the choker clasp securely on the ends of the belt with a needle and carpet thread.
Step3
Paint the bottle caps or decorate them any way you like, and allow them to dry thoroughly.
Step4
Attach the flat sides of the bottle caps to the leather belt with a hot glue gun.
Step5
Let the glue dry completely and your choker is ready to wear.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try gluing some tiny, colorful magazine pictures into the inside of the caps, or painting your own miniature pictures. The caps will look whimsical and lovely when they’re attached to the choker. You can even copy pictures of your friends or family and glue them into the caps. Paint the caps first, if you like.
