Making a bookmark using glue and the lid of a pencil box is a classic craft and ideally suited as a project for kids. The kids can customize the bookmark by adding glitter or creating unique shapes. Let the glue dry, then carefully peel it away.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cooking spray
  • Glue
  • Pencil box top
  • Glitter
  • Beads
  • Ribbon
  1. Step 1

Spray the top of the textured pencil box lightly, with a very little bit of cooking spray. The spray will help you lift the glue from the pencil box when it's completely dry.

  2. Step 2

Squirt the glue onto the lid. Use a glue that dries clear. Be pretty generous so all the textured areas are filled with glue. Don't worry about the width of the bookmark at this point, you can trim it down later if you choose to do so.

  3. Step 3

Sprinkle glitter into the glue to add color and sparkle. You can also add beads to the glue.

  4. Step 4

Wait about an hour or so until the glue starts to dry. Cut ribbons to the desired length and lay them over the end of the bookmark. You may need to use a pencil to poke them down into the glue. Use as many ribbons you want.

  5. Step 5

Allow the bookmark to dry overnight.

  6. Step 6

Peel the glue up and away from the pencil box very gently.

  7. Step 7

Trim the edges using decorative scissors. You can skip this step if you like the appearance of the bookmark.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use any shallow mold, such as mint molds, or any textured surface to accomplish the same thing.
  • Experiment with shapes. Using basic shapes, you can create animals or people-shaped bookmarks.
