Step 1
Find several dance studios in your area. Most yellow pages or Internet searches will come up with a list. Ask friends that have children in dance about their current dance studios for recommendations.
-
Step 2
Start your comparison work on each studio. Ask for class schedules, deposits required, tuition amounts, teacher information and required attire for the various types of dance classes.
-
Step 3
Narrow your search to the studios that offer dance lessons that best meet the needs of you and your child. Look for combination classes for the very young dancers that offer tap, ballet and jazz in a 1-hour class. This gives them a chance to explore several forms of dance without having several different classes. For your older children, check to see if there will be classes that are back to back, so they make the most of their time.
-
Step 4
Dig deeper in finding your perfect dance lessons. Ask if the dance classes are by age and level of dance experience. You might have a teenager that has taken dance all her life, who’s going to be far more experienced than the teenager who has just decided to take dance lessons for the first time.
-
Step 5
Talk to the dance director about visiting with your child to watch the class before you make any financial commitments. You’ll be able to tell by the reaction of your child whether or not they are excited about getting involved in this dance class.
-
Step 1
Find dance studios in your area just as described above in Step 1. Make your search for finding dance lessons a bit more specific depending on why you want to take dance lessons.
-
Step 2
Look for dance studios that offer an all-round variety of dance classes if you just want to take some basic dance classes. The difference will be to look for dance studios that offer adult classes at all levels, so you’ll have a variety of classes to choose from.
-
Step 3
Take your dance lessons to the ballroom, if you are preparing for your wedding or you have a teen that wants to learn some basic dance skills for couples dancing. Look specifically for ballroom dance studios. Ask about 4, 6 and 8 week condensed lessons, so you’ll be ready to sway your partner around the dance floor.
-
Step 4
Shuffle over to a tap studio or dance studio that offers tap classes for adults. These are great classes for a variety of ages, usually all together. These should offer a fun environment for learning tap dancing techniques, learning dance combinations and might even have a recital at the end of the year.
-
Step 5
Center your search for an adult ballet class at studios that will offer beginning, intermediate and professional level adult classes. You’ll have to determine if you want classical ballet, modern ballet, pointe classes or maybe lyrical ballet. If you’re undecided, ask to observe several classes to see where your interests are.
-
Step 6
Get spicy with your dance lessons by taking salsa lessons. You’ll need to look for a salsa dance studio or a studio that offers some basic salsa classes. Look for classes that will teach the basics of salsa in addition to the couples dancing and performing.
-
Step 7
Bounce over to a hip hop class at dance studios that offer classes for adults. Hip hop can be quite a work out, so check to see if your health club offers hip hop classes for fitness, dance and fun.
