How to Make Simple Syrup

Pour water into a pot and place the pot on the stovetop.

Turn the stove onto high heat and bring the water to a rolling boil.

Add the sugar to the boiling water.

Stir the sugar and water mixture with a spoon to help dissolve the sugar.

Continue to cook and stir the mixture until all of the sugar has dissolved into the water and the mixture has a syrup-like consistency.

Water has reached a rolling boil when it doesn't stop boiling when you stir the mixture.
When the sugar and water mixture drips off a spoon in a stream, it has the correct syrup consistency for simple syrup.
Consider making more simple syrup than you need for a particular recipe or drink. You can store extra simple syrup in the refrigerator indefinitely and use it as needed in the future.
