How to Do a Nollie Tail Tap on a Snowboard

The Nollie is a variation on the classic ollie trick. Instead of jumping off of the back of your snowboard, you jump off of the front. The Nollie Tail Tap adds a little spice to this basic jump, but it's easy enough for beginners to handle with practice.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Ride down an easy to moderate slope. You don't want too much speed, but you'll need some to give your jump the energy and lift it needs.
Step2
Straighten your board out and head directly down the hill. At this point it's a good idea to make sure you won't hit anyone during the trick.
Step3
Jump off of the snowboard's nose by applying light pressure to your front foot and then leaping from the ground. Avoid digging the nose into the snow, as this will cause you to wipeout.
Step4
Twist your body about 45 degrees to either side while you're in the air. It's easier to turn in a backside direction. Turning front side forces you to balance more on your heels during the tail tap.
Step5
Set the tail of the snowboard down first. You should still be facing slightly sideways.
Step6
Pull your body out of the twist and point the snowboard's nose back downhill.

Tips & Warnings

  • Watch out for people skiing or snowboarding next to you. You can easily whack them with your board if you're not careful.
  • Don't try the Nollie Tail Tap or any other snowboarding trick without at least wearing a helmet.
