Things You'll Need:

  • Packet cinnamon instant oatmeal
  • ½ cup applesauce, sweetened or unsweetened
  • ½ cup boiling water
  • Extra cinnamon, if desired
  • Sugar or artificial sweetener
  • Measuring cup
  • Cereal bowl
  • Spoon
  1. Step 1

Pour 1 packet of instant cinnamon flavored oatmeal into a cereal bowl.

  2. Step 2

Add a single serving size container of applesauce or approximately ½ cup of applesauce.

  3. Step 3

Sprinkle in extra cinnamon if desired.

  4. Step 4

Stir in ½ cup of boiling water and gently blend the ingredients. For a variation, try milk or cream in place of the water. Just put everything into a microwavable bowl and microwave for 1 minute.

  5. Step 5

Allow the mixture to stand for about 1 minute.

  6. Step 6

Add extra sugar or artificial sweetener if you want a sweeter taste.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don’t have instant packets of oatmeal, substitute quick oats. Use equal amounts of oatmeal and water, add the applesauce and microwave for approximately 1 to 1 ½ minutes. Check after 1 minute and stir as the oatmeal will puff and could overflow the bowl. Then finish microwaving the mixture.
  • For thinner oatmeal add more water to the mixture.
  • Add 1 to 2 tbsp. of ice cream or fat-free yogurt for delicious tasting apple pie ala mode oatmeal.
  • To adapt this recipe for weight control, use the light cinnamon flavored instant oatmeal packets and artificial sweetener.
  • Use maple syrup or honey as a sweetener for a different taste.
