Step 1
Go to a known and trusted company and ask for diversified services. If you're ecologically minded, you probably already have contracts with other green companies. Find out if any of these companies offer web hosting as part of a diversified service program.
-
Step 2
Look for labels and accreditations. Lots of analyst start-ups are rating businesses "green." Search by federal, state or local levels to find businesses that have a "seal of approval." Co-op America's National Green Pages is just one example of a directory for finding eco-friendly page hosts.
-
Step 3
Browse the directory offered by the popular environmental site TreeHugger. TreeHugger's wind and solar directory lists web hosts using wind or solar to power their services.
-
Step 4
Go for actual green technology over energy credits. Websites of green hosting services specify their dedication to powering their services in an eco-friendly way, rather than purchasing energy credits. Read the service provider's mission statement carefully and ask questions if necessary.

Step 5
Contact your local chamber of commerce. Local government business tools can sometimes help out with getting businesses together to partner for local solutions. Talk to your CoC representative about getting eco-friendly businesses into a local directory.
