How to Look Like a Farmer for Halloween

Halloween is the time of year to dress up in disguise and go trick or treating, or to attend Halloween parties with family and friends. Costume ideas are plentiful, but if you don't want to buy the same old costume from the store like everyone else, you can create your own. Follow these steps to look like a farmer with an authentic looking costume.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a pair of overalls. Blue jean material is most commonly associated with farmers. A new pair is not necessary; in fact, an old pair or a pair from a secondhand store with a worn look will give a more authentic look to your Halloween costume.

    • 2

Wear a flannel, long sleeve shirt with the overalls. Ordinary colors, such as red, blue or green, are ideal for a farmer costume.

    • 3

Place a straw hat on your head. You might not find many farmers wearing them anymore, but this is still something immediately associated with a good old-fashioned American farmer.

    • 4

Put on some work boots or sturdy looking shoes that are black or brown. Farmers work hard in the fields and need good, reliable footwear to get the job done. If they are dirty, it will add to the realism of the costume, so don't clean them off.

    • 5

Mess up your hair. Working in the fields means working in the wind. Hair that is out of place and sticking out of a hat in tufts will also add a great touch. Girls can wear pigtails sticking out of their hat to add fun to their look.

    • 6

Chew the end of a long piece of straw. You may not see this stereotype often either, but others will instantly recognize you as a hardworking farmer.
