Step 1
Pick up some magazines. Browse through the articles and advertisements to see what trends are in full swing for the season. Clip out pictures of outfits you like so when you go shopping, you can try to duplicate the look.
-
Step 2
Chat with your friends. It helps to know what they are planning to wear back to school so you don’t show up looking like a carbon copy. Chances are, you share similar tastes and may end up with outfits that look alike, but working out a style plan ahead of time will help make sure you look like an individual on the first day of school.
-
Step 3
Take a quiz. Short quizzes that help define your style can be found in many fashion magazines and online. You will get a sense of whether you gravitate toward preppy clothes or whether you’re athletic or eclectic. This will help you plan your outfits and overall look.
-
Step 4
Work with what you’ve got. You may have your heart set on a curly hairstyle you saw on your favorite celebrity, but if your straight hair won’t hold a curl, perhaps it’s time to come up with an alternative. Likewise, if skinny jeans are the look you’re going for and they don’t work with your body type, try to pull together a style that’s more flattering on you.
