Step 1
Propel yourself on the skateboard at a comfortable rate of speed on a level riding surface. Riding a skateboard is similar to riding a bike, in that the faster you go, the easier it is to balance.
-
Step 2
Step back slightly as you continue to propel yourself forward. As you move back, the weight change on the skateboard will bring the front wheels slightly off of the ground.
-
Step 3
Experiment with your skateboard and center of gravity to discover the location on your board that brings the front wheels off of the ground without pushing the back of the skateboard deck into the ground.
-
Step 4
Remove one leg from the skateboard and use it to push yourself forward. Adjust the placement of the other foot until you can keep it on the board while maintaining the wheelie. Use your free foot to help balance and propel yourself forward.
