Identify pipe ramps by the flat bottoms leading to concave ramps. There is the half pipe, which looks like a large pipe cut in half, and the quarter pipe, a concave ramp that generally leads from the ground with a smooth lip. Both ramp types can reach various heights.

Distinguish between mini-ramps and vert ramps by their heights. Vert ramps are almost always higher than 6 feet at their apex while mini-ramps fall below 6 feet.

Examine street ramps, which have ramps extending from different angles and have different degrees of incline. In many cases, street ramps include obstacles, such as walls and grind poles, that provide more stunt options for street skateboarders.

Look at grind boxes, which have gradual inclines on each side of a plateau with a grind poll or ledge mounted on the center. The grind boxes are usually low to the ground, rarely more than 4-feet high.
